SEL Framework Alignment
The Petalulette SEL Program™ supports the development of core social and emotional learning competencies consistent with widely recognized educational frameworks, including the CASEL framework.
Petalulette is an independently developed story-based SEL program. It has not been reviewed or designated by CASEL and is not affiliated with or endorsed by CASEL.
Rather than teaching social and emotional skills in isolation, Petalulette integrates learning through storytelling, creative expression, guided reflection, and meaningful classroom experiences.
Core Competencies Supported
Self-Awareness
Students learn to recognize, name, and reflect on their emotions through story-based experiences, classroom discussion, creative expression, and guided reflection.
Self-Management
Students practice pausing, reflecting, managing emotional responses, and responding thoughtfully within a calm and supportive learning environment.
Social Awareness
Students develop empathy and perspective-taking as they engage with characters, explore different experiences, and participate in shared classroom reflection.
Relationship Skills
Students strengthen communication, active listening, cooperation, and respectful interaction through storytelling, discussion, and collaborative learning experiences.
Responsible Decision-Making
Students reflect on choices, consequences, and possible outcomes while developing greater awareness of how their actions may affect themselves and others.
Developmentally Appropriate Learning
Petalulette introduces social and emotional concepts progressively across the elementary grade levels:
Early elementary experiences focus on identity, curiosity, recognizing emotions, and expressing feelings.
Intermediate elementary experiences deepen emotional awareness, empathy, confidence, courage, and resilience.
Upper elementary experiences strengthen communication, thoughtful decision-making, student voice, responsibility, and leadership.
Classroom Integration
The program combines storytelling, creative expression, classroom discussion, and guided reflection to create calm, engaging, and meaningful learning experiences.
Students are invited to explore emotions, relationships, choices, and perspectives in developmentally appropriate ways that support independence, self-awareness, classroom connection, and thoughtful participation.
